Echo Spot Web Videos
Multimodal User Experience · 2017

The Echo Spot was Amazon's second touchscreen Alexa-enabled device, and it featured a circular display for visual information and video calling.
Users can also ask Alexa to search or play short-form web videos from providers such as YouTube.
On this project, I worked on concepts for how to search and play web videos with your voice and touch.
Although there are elements of this experience that are specific to the web videos feature, I collaborated with the Alexa Music team in order to create a consistent experience for media playback and control.
My Role
- Interaction and Visual Design
- Voice User Experience

When searching with your voice, the top result fills the entire screen. Quickly scrolling using the touchscreen pulls the interface back and reveals a horizontal list.

Tapping the screen or asking Alexa to pause the video reveals the player controls.

Requests for playing web videos are handled immediately, skipping the list view for even ambiguous requests.

Search requests, such as "Alexa, find..." present you with a horizontal list, which you can navigate with your voice or touch. Using your voice, you can ask Alexa to play a specific video in the list.

The design of on-screen player controls had to account for the absence or presence of features such as video zoom and captions.
